摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which allows recording and regeneration of information, for example, by light with a wavelength of 600 nm or less, and shows satisfactory image data recording/regeneration properties, and further, enables the recording of information to be performed in higher density. <P>SOLUTION: The optical recording medium has a substrate and a recording layer formed on the substrate and the recording layer contains a partial oxide of a transition metal. Image data are recorded/regenerated in the optical recording medium of the described constitution by light with a wavelength of 600 nm or less. The partial oxide of the transition metal is a chemical compound which falls within the range where the oxygen content is smaller than a stoichiometric composition complying with an appropriate value/number to be credited to the transition metal. That is, the chemical component has the oxygen content of the partial oxide of the transition metal which is smaller than that of the stoichiometric composition complying with the appropriate value/number to be credited to the transition metal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
