<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side air bag system capable of lessening the restriction on the design of vehicle interiors, shortening the time required to spread, and having high flexibility in the inflator installing position. <P>SOLUTION: The side air bag system for protection of an occupant includes an air bag 8 which is spread between the occupant and the vehicle body side wall when an inflator 10 is ignited in conformity to the signal given by an acceleration sensor at a collision of a vehicle, wherein the air bag 8 is installed along a surface skin 9 between the base material 7 and surface skin 9 constituting the vehicle interiors, and it is arranged so that the surface skin 9 itself is spread toward the occupant when the air bag 8 is to be inflated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
