PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester composition which, while preventing the deposition of a catalyst, can improve the dispersibility of inert particles; and to prepare a biaxially oriented polyester film which is prepared by using the same, hardly contains agglomerated particles, and is suitable for the base film of a high-density magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: This polyester composition comprises a polyester, inert particles having an average particle size of 0.5μm or lower, and a titanium compound soluble in the polyester. Basing upon the weight of the composition, 0.01-5 wt.% inert particles, 5-20 ppm (in terms of titanium element) titanium compound, and up to 5 ppm antioxidant for the polyester are contained.
