PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe high in accuracy and resolution. SOLUTION: The probe comprises a transmitter for transmitting ultrasonic signals, a receiver comprising a plurality of receiving elements for receiving ultrasonic waves transmitted and reflected from an object and for outputting the received signals, a direction sensor for sensing the bearing of the object based on the arrangement of the receiving elements and the phase differences between signals outputted by the receiving elements, a distance/reflection intensity detector for detecting the distance and reflection intensity of the object based on the appearance time point and amplitude of the received signals, and a display processor for displaying on the screen the reflecting body by using the detected bearing, distance, and reflection intensity. For the enhancement of their resolution power, the receiving elements are so arranged that their ultrasonic beam receiving sensitivity is wide in the direction where there is an object to detect and narrow enough in the direction where there is no object to detect.
