Clarifying unit comprises a sludge reservoir (1) and a funnel-like post-clarifying reservoir (2) arranged inside or outside of the sludge reservoir. The post-clarifying reservoir has a hollow central column (3) which has a smaller diameter than the post-clarifying reservoir. The central column has devices (5, 6) for removing slurry from the base of the post-clarifying reservoir. An Independent claim is also included for a process for operating the clarifying unit. Preferred Features: The column has an outer diameter of 30 cm to 3 m, preferably 0.8 m to 3 m. A feed pipe (4) for introducing effluent from the sludge reservoir into the post-clarifying reservoir opens into the inside of the column and into its upper region. The column has outlet openings to the post-clarifying reservoir below the mouth of the feed pipe in the column. |
