MOBILE COMMUNICATION DEVICE HAVING ANTENNA ARRAY AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: A mobile communication device having an antenna array and a method therefor are provided to improve a communication performance by reducing the quantity of information fed back from a mobile station to a base station, which is necessary for beam-forming. CONSTITUTION: Mobile stations(20,22,24) measure a downlink characteristic of an antenna-classified channel from a signal transmitted from a base station(10), and detect physical space information and approximation long-term information from the measured downlink characteristic. The mobile stations(20,22,24) generate short-term information from approximation long-term information and the downlink characteristic, convert short-term information and physical space information into a feedback signal, and transmit the feedback signal to the base station(10). The base station(10) receives the feedback signal, extracts weight information from short-term information and physical space information, which are recovered from the feedback signal, and performs the beam forming of a DPCH(Dedicated Physical CHannel) signal by weight information. The base station(10) combines pilot channel signals with the beam forming result, and transmits the combined results to the mobile stations(20,22,24) through an antenna array.
