PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cast strip of austenitic stainless steel which is prepared by casting a strip by a twin roll type casting method and by which a thin sheet of austenitic stainless steel having stably excellent surface quality can be obtained. SOLUTION: The cast strip of austenitic stainless steel with excellent surface characteristics is constituted of a columnar-crystal zone on the outer side and an equiaxed-crystal zone in the central part, and Ni concentration in the equiaxed-crystal zone is made to 0.95 to 0.8 of Ni concentration in the columnar- crystal zone over the overall width in a strip-width direction by incorporating La, Ce, Mg inclusions.
