The pre-heating method has different heat energy quantities supplied to the pipe surface along the axial length of the pipeline (4), with a lower heat energy quantity provided at the center of the weld seam (5) than on either side, for providing a uniform surface temperature. The heat energy is provided by inductive heating using a capacitive discharge for providing the heating current. An Independent claim for a pipe weld seam pre-heating device is also included.
