FIELD: electrical engineering; starting gas-discharge lamps. SUBSTANCE: device has capacitor connected to voltage supply through reactor and pulse transformer whose primary winding is inserted in capacitor discharge circuit through starter and secondary winding connects lamp to its power supply. The following condition should be satisfied here: LJ2>CU2max, where L is reactor inductance; J is current for opening starter contacts; C is capacitor rating; Umax is voltage of transition of starter or hermetically sealed ferreed contact abnormal glow discharge to low-voltage waveform. EFFECT: simplified design while retaining capability of rector-free starting, for instance, xenon lamps. 3 cl, 4 dwg
