PURPOSE: A method for initializing an IP terminal in an IP phone system is provided to control the IP terminal by a gatekeeper while initializing the IP terminal and the gatekeeper, and to match the IP terminal with the gatekeeper when restarting the IP terminal, thereby enabling a user to designate an IP only of a DHCP server in the IP terminal. CONSTITUTION: An IP terminal confirms whether a self IP and a telephone number exist(101). If not, the IP terminal accesses a DHCP server, and broadcasts a DHCP server request message to the DHCP server(103). The DHCP server assigns an IP address of the IP terminal, an IP address of a TFTP(Trivial File Transfer Protocol) server, and a file name(104). The IP terminal accesses the TFTP server with the IP of the TFTP server(105). The TFTP server provides a script file(106). Software version information is supplied to the IP terminal(106). The IP terminal receives the script file, and requests registration by transmitting an RRQ(Registration Request) message(107). A gatekeeper core transmits an RCF(Registration Confirmation) message to the IP terminal(108), and stores information on the IP terminal(109), then informs an AAA(Authentication, Authorization, and Account) server of the stored information(110).
