METHOD FOR AUTOMATICALLY SETTING TRANSMISSION MODE IN LINE INTERFACE DEVICE

PURPOSE: A method for automatically setting a transmission mode in a line interface device is provided to automatically set a mode of the line interface device in a system having the line interface device which supports at least two modes. CONSTITUTION: If a power is turned on, a line interface device executes initialization of each circuit(400). If the initialization are completed, a data conversion unit of the line interface device reads storing modes from a memory(402) and sets a storing mode reading value(t) as '1'. The data conversion unit transmits a test message as a mode corresponded to the 't' value(404) and operates a timer. The data conversion unit waits a receipt of a looped back test message(406). The data conversion unit checks whether a time over of the timer is generated(408). If a time over of the timer is generated, '1' is added to the 't' value(414). The data conversion unit checks whether data having '2' exist out of the 't' value read from the memory(416). If data having '2' exist out of the 't' value read from the memory, the data conversion unit does not set a mode. If a time over of the timer is not generated, it is checked whether a loop back message is received(410). If a loop back message is received, the data conversion unit sets the current mode and transmits data of the set mode to a control unit(412).
