GEAR STAGE DETERMINING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear stage determining device which automatically learns the data on a transmission on the basis of a meter gear ratio before determining a gear stage.

SOLUTION: This gear stage determining device comprises: a car speed sensor 21 connected to an output shaft 9 of a transmission T/M through a meter gear 32; a transmission rotation sensor 20 for detecting the rotation of an input shaft of the transmission T/M; and an ECU 16 which inputs pulses from these sensors 21, 20 and counts the number of pulses of the sensor 20 when the sensor 21 inputs the pulses of unit number to determine the present gear stage. The ECU 16 stores the data on the pulse number of the sensor 20 on the basis of a gear ratio of each stage of the transmission T/M and a gear ratio of a plurality of meter gears 32 as a map in advance, the gear ratio of the meter gear 32 is specified on the basis of the map, and the present gear stage is determined on the basis of the map of the data of the counted value corresponding to the specified meter gear ratio.
