<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which performs secondary transfer without causing any contamination of back face in a transfer material even when forming a density control test pattern in an image non-formation area on an intermediate transfer body during image formation. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier, an electrostatic latent image forming means, developing means for a plurality of colors, an intermediate transfer body, a primary transfer means, a current detecting means, a cleaning member, a density detecting means, and a secondary transfer means. The primary transfer means primarily transfers a toner image on the image carrier onto the intermediate transfer body electrostatically, and repeats the primary transfer process on the intermediate transfer body, for toner images of at least two or more distinct colors, thereby forming a color toner image on the intermediate transfer body, and then secondarily transfers the color toner images to the transfer material all at once electrostatically. In the image forming apparatus, when the test pattern the density of which has been detected by the density detecting means is passed through the primary transfer area, a bias which is applied to the primary transfer means is controlled based upon the detection result of the current detecting means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
