PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing so as to obtain a liquid developer for electrophotographic or electrostatic recording, the liquid developer having resin particles which are dispersed in a high insulating solvent, which contain a coloring agent such as a pigment and which have a small particle size and narrow distribution of the grain size and the liquid developer excellent in dispersion stability, developing characteristics and fixing property. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid developer includes a process of subjecting a mixture liquid comprising at least a pigment, a resin, a solvent dissolving the resin and an electric insulating solvent having no solubility with the resin to distillation or the like to remove the solvent dissolving the resin. The removing process by distillation or the like to remove the solvent dissolving the resin is carried out at a temperature lower than the softening point of the resin while mixing in a high-speed shear mixing device.
