PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat development device and a heat development method by which an image without having density fluctuation is obtained on a heat developable material after heat development by stabilizing temperature for heat development in accordance with ambient temperature. SOLUTION: In the heat development method, when a visible image is obtained by performing the heat development by heating the heat developable material having a latent image by a heating member, the temperature of the heating member or temperature in the vicinity of the heating member is detected, and the ambient temperature is estimated from the rising ratio of the temperature of the heating member, and the heat development is started based on estimated ambient temperature. Since the heat development is started after the temperature for the heat development is stabilized in accordance with the ambient temperature, the image without having the density fluctuation is obtained on the heat developable material after the heat development.
