SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel method for preparing omeprazole that is effective inhibitor of gastric acid secretion and useful as an anti-ulcerous agent. Invention describes method for preparing omeprazole including oxidation step of 5- methoxy-2-[[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl)methyl] thio]-1H-benzimidazole in organic solvent with an oxidizing agent and, possibly, in the presence of a base. Oxidation is carried out in the presence of titanium complex. Invention provides the development of novel, more suitable and effective method for preparing racemic omeprazole.
