<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid vehicle that is switchable between a parallel hybrid and a series hybrid. <P>SOLUTION: A planetary carrier 123, a sun gear 121 and a ring gear 122 of planetary gear 120 are respectively connected with an engine 150, a motor 130, and a motor 140 and an axle 116. A clutch 160 is disposed between the planetary gear 120 and the motor 140 to disengage and engage them. A brake 162 is disposed to fix the ring gear 122 when the clutch 160 is disengaged. Engagement of the clutch 160 realizes a parallel hybrid vehicle configuration. Disengagement of the clutch 160 and fixing of the ring gear 122 by the brake 162 realize a series hybrid vehicle configuration.
