PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission controller for a toroidal-type continuously variable transmission applying a command value of a step motor for the gear shift as a speed command, which achieves stable control without the collision of a trunnion with a tiltable stopper. SOLUTION: This toroidal-type continuously variable transmission comprising the tiltable stopper for regulating a tilting angle of the trunnion, further comprises: a gear shift actuator driving position detecting means for detecting a driving position of the gear shift actuator; a driving speed calculating means for calculating a driving speed of the gear shift actuator; an arrival time calculating means for calculating an arrival time in a case that the gear shift actuator is driven at the driving speed to a maximum driving position; a safety time calculating means for calculating the safety time obtained by subtracting a specific time from the arrival time; and a driving speed switching means for making the driving speed of the actuator zero after the passage of the safety time.
