PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving direction detector by which a moving direction can be detected with high precision, even if a vehicle or the like moves at a slow speed. SOLUTION: The detector is provided with an antenna 3 for receiving an electric wave; a position data generating portion 4 for generating position data on the basis of the electric wave; a terrestrial magnetism sensor 5 for detecting terrestrial magnetism; a memory 7 for storing data representing the threshold value of a moving speed; an interface portion 8 which performs transmission and reception of data to and from an external apparatus; and a control unit 6 which computes a first moving direction and a moving speed of the basis of the position data, computes a second moving direction on the basis of the terrestrial magnetism, compares the moving speed with the threshold value, transmits data representing the first moving direction to the external apparatus via the interface portion 8 if the moving speed is faster than the threshold value, and transmits data representing the second moving direction to the external apparatus via the interface portion 8, if the moving speed is slower than the threshold value.
