A filter (2) with a surface swept clean comprises at least one filter cartridge (22) fixed inside an external tube envelope (20) and defining a purge line (220). The purge line has an insert (26) limiting the section of passage of the purge liquid through the purge line. The filter cartridge is a cylindrical tube. The purge line is formed inside the filter cartridge. The insert is in the form of a longitudinal element placed coaxially in the downstream part of the purge line. The insert has a body (260) and a head (261) with the head towards the filter inlet. The longitudinal section of the insert body is rectilinear, triangular or a circular sector. The section of the purge line is restricted over 5-80% of the length of the filter element. The distance between the head of the insert and the downstream end of the filter is between 20-80%, preferably between 40 and 60%, of the length of the filter.
