PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer latex having active methylene groups and almost containing no agglomerate and a silver halide photographic photosensitive material containing the polymer latex and excellent in applicability and film strength. SOLUTION: In the polymer latex, the mass percentage (w) of repeating units derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an active methylene group satisfies 1≤w≤20; that (x) of repeating units derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer which gives a homopolymer having a Tg of 10°C or lower and is selected from methacrylates and acrylates satisfies 60≤x≤96; that (y) of repeating units derived from a styrene compound satisfied 0
