FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has cover with inlet opening for discharge of air, from which foreign matter had been removed, movable part arranged for changing position thereof depending on coupling state, supporting part for moving said movable part, and filter equipped with coupling device having a plurality of projections adapted to be coupled to cover supporting part, a plurality of slots defined between projections of said plurality of projections, and engagement member positioned at predetermined distance from projections and adapted for changing position of movable part. Filter is detachably coupled to supporting part. Movable part prevents closing of dust collector with cover until filter adapted for filtering finely dispersed dust is coupled to cover, because total height of cover and dust collector casing exceeds the height of space defined in main casing of vacuum cleaner and adapted for accommodation of dust collector casing by value equal to height of movable member. So, dust collector casing may not be inserted into vacuum cleaner main casing. Such construction provides verification for user that filter is attached to dust collector casing.
