<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely form an image to the vicinity of ends in a vertical scanning direction of a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A shift direction and a shift amount SH in the vertical scanning direction of an image mask region are set and stored in a RAM 41d. For example, in a printing region expansion mode and in the case where the recording medium is actually transferred with a displacement in a direction to reach the position of a transfer charging device 40 by 1 mm later than on the design because of a transfer displacement or the like of the recording medium, and the image mask region or a printable region SA is displaced relatively forward (upward) by 1 mm, the shift direction of the image mask region is set to be 'rearward' and the shift amount SH is set to be '1 mm'. At a printing start time, the set shift direction and shift amount are read out, and the image mask region is shifted in the vertical scanning direction according to the read shift direction and shift amount by controlling of a mask signal.
