PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new simple method for producing p- or m-chlorostyrene efficiently. SOLUTION: The method for producing p- or m-chlorostyrene comprises reacting p- or m-chlorophenylethyl alcohol represented by formula (I) [wherein, X is hydrogen atom and Y is chlorine atom or X is chlorine atom and Y is hydrogen atom] with an alkali metal hydroxide as a dehydrating reactional catalyst. In the method, the reaction is carried out at a temperature for enabling the production of p- or m-chlorostyrene in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor and under a vacuum so as to keep p- or m-chlorostyrene at the boiling point thereof or above at the temperature and p- or m-chlorostyrene is continuously evaporated from the reaction mixture to the outside of a reaction vessel.
