PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a car position detecting means of an elevator having high position detection accuracy of a car even under the direct sunlight and a long service life. SOLUTION: This car position detecting device is provided with a position detecting switch 7 provided in either one of an elevator shaft 2 or a car 9 and formed with a light emitting part 5a and a light receiving part 6a receiving light from the light emitting part 5a opposing each other, a non-transparent long cylindrical member 8b projectingly provided from the periphery of the light receiving part 6a on the light emitting part 5a side, and a shielding member 10 provided on the other one of the elevator shaft 2 or the car 9 passing between the light emitting part 5a and the light receiving part 6a of the position detecting switch 7 according to elevation of the car 9 for shielding the light from the light emitting part 5a.
