PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain only a required part of a metal oxide as a fine wire-shaped crystal material. SOLUTION: The method for producing a metal oxide micro wire comprises heating and sublimating at least one or more of organic metal materials 102 having sublimability in the surrounding gas containing an oxidation gas, then obtaining fine wire-shaped deposits in the materials 102 by cooling the surrounding gas, thereafter oxidizing the deposits in a surrounding gas containing steam, and reheating the deposits after the oxidizing treatment in a surrounding gas containing oxygen gas thereby to obtain a fine wire-shaped metal oxide having a crystal structure.
