PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alarm device capable of giving an alarming motion to suit the acknowledging characteristics of individuals. SOLUTION: The alarm device is equipped with an alarming means 20 to issue an alarm, an acknowledging characteristic sensing means 13 to sense the acknowledging characteristics of individuals, and an altering means 30 to alter the issuing characteristics of the alarming means in accordance with the output of the sensing means 13. The alarm device is mounted, for example on a vehicle running control device equipped with inter-vehicle distance controlling function, and when the actual inter-vehicle distance lessens to the admissible minimum value set on the basis of the individual acknowledging characteristics of any driver such as the audible characteristic or reacting speed characteristic, an alarm buzzer 33 or alarm lamp 34 is actuated so that the safety drive of the vehicle is ensured.
