<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biosensor apparatus and a biosensor method for detecting the type of samples and the volume of erythrocytes. <P>SOLUTION: A biosensor apparatus 100 includes a sine wave generator 146 for applying AC signals to a biosensor cell 102 for accommodating samples, a current-to-voltage converter 114, a phase shifter 116, a square wave generator 112, a synchronous demodulator 118, and a low-pass filter 120 for yielding a signal proportional to the effective capacitance across the biosensor cell which is proportional to the volume of the samples. Additionally, the current-to-voltage converter yields a signal for indicating the type of samples contained within the biosensor cell. The method includes a stage for applying sine waves to the biosensor cell, a stage for changing the phase of signals that are obtained as a result, a stage for generating square waves in synchronization with the sine waves, a stage for demodulating a signal obtained as the result by square waves, and a stage for generating a signal that is proportional to the effective capacitance of the biosensor cell by filtering demodulated signals. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
