PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal transmission device which can securely transmit and receive signals without using an electric conductor connecting a steering column and a steering part together. SOLUTION: The device has: a 1st light guide 2a which is mounted on a steering wheel side and constituted by forming in a ring shape a light guide material in a trapezoidal flat-plate shape and having a flat surface 11a and a tapered surface 12a; and a 2nd light guide 2b which is mounted on the steering column side and constituted by forming in a ring shape a light guide material in a trapezoidal flat-plate shape and having a flat surface 11b and a tapered surface 12b, the flat surface 11b being arranged opposite to the flat surface 11a of the 1st light guide 2a nearly in parallel thereto at a specified interval. A light emitting element 3 is mounted on an incidence surface of the 2nd light guide 2a and a light receiving element 4 is mounted on a light emitting surface of the 2nd light guide 2a. A light signal sent from the light emitting element 3 is transmitted to the light receiving element 4 through the 1st light guide 2a, a gap 15, and the 2nd light guide 2b. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
