PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a releasant suitably usable in a method of making such a paper machine wire with a watermark pattern for producing watermark- patterned paper as to store as image data the desired watermark pattern therein, enable the pattern to be readily formed at any time when needed and also be reusable by making the pattern once formed peelable therefrom. SOLUTION: The releasant for use in the method of making the paper machine wire with a watermark pattern comprising the steps of forming the watermark pattern on a transfer material, transferring the pattern onto the paper machine wire, and peeling off the pattern thus transferred, has such properties as to swell or soften a drawing material used in the above 1st and 2nd steps.
