PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymerization catalyst component which can produce polyolefins in high efficiency. SOLUTION: In the catalyst component for polymerizing olefins obtained by bringing a compound (A) containing a metallic element selected from any of group 5 to group 11 of the periodic table into contact with a ligand component (B), an iminopyridone compound or a pyridone compound is used as the ligand component (B).
