PURPOSE: An ink cartridge for an ink jet printer is provided to control negative pressure in an ink storing section of the ink cartridge within a predetermined range by using a ratchet device. CONSTITUTION: An ink cartridge(100) includes a housing, an ink storing section formed in the housing in order to contain ink therein, and a print head(150) for spraying ink onto a printing medium. The housing includes a body, a cover(114) for covering the body, and a lid(118) having a handle. The ink storing section is connected to the cover(114) and an ink feeding pipe(152). A ratchet device is provided to maintain negative pressure in the ink storing section. The ratchet device has a ratchet lock(132), a spring(142), and a spring guide for guiding a movement of the spring(142). The print head(150) is positioned at a bottom of the ink storing section.
