<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system which can generate printing data by interpreting and executing contents data composed of elements which show various information with the utilization of limited resources, a printer, a method for generating printing data, a program and a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: When a printer controller 111 of the printer 110 receives and interprets contents data in units of pages via an IEEE1394 interface 120 from a digital TV 100 for inputting contents data composed of elements which show various information, and generates printing data by laying out each element in the contents data on the basis of the interpreted result, if a range where the elements in the contents, data act spreads over a plurality of pages and at the same time, the printer becomes short of resources while laying out each element, each of remaining elements is laid out in a new page at a time point when the layout at the page is completed and the shortage of resources of the printer is resolved.
