PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance durability of a piston of an axial piston cylinder type expansion machine. SOLUTION: In the expansion machine, a rotor 22 is rotated and driven by pressing a cam plate 31 by a piston 42 by feeding high temperature/high pressure vapor to the expansion chamber 43 partitioned between the piston 42 and the cylinder sleeve 41 and a sliding surface of the piston 42 and the cylinder sleeve 41 is lubricated by an oil fed from an oil hole 32c. The piston 42 comprises a top part 63 exposed to the high temperature/high pressure vapor of the expansion chamber 43; an end part 61 butted to the cam plate 31; and a midway part 62 laid between the end part 61 and the top part 63 and sliding with the cylinder sleeve 41. The top part 63 is composed of a heat-resistant/anti- corrosive material; the end part 61 is composed of a material having high bearing-resistance; and the midway part 62 is composed of a material having high abrasion-resistance.
