PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester thick and thin multifilament yarn having random cycle of a deep color part and a light color part and having a large contrast ratio of the deep color part to the light color part. SOLUTION: This polyester thick and thin multifilament yarn comprises a plurality of single filaments having thick and thin unevenness, wherein (1)≥70% thick part of the polyester thick and thin multifilament yarn is composed of the thick part of the single filament and≥85% thin part of the yarn is composed of thin part of the single filament, (2) the coefficient of variation (CV) of the thickness of the multifilament yarn is≥8% but≤16%, (3) the length L (mm) of the thick part having larger thickness by≥8% based on average thickness is≤350 mm, (4) the ratio of the thick part having≥48 mm length L (mm) to the whole thick part is≥0.30 but≤0.70, (5) the number of the thick part is≥60 but≤120 per 8 m, (6) the ratio of the denier of thickest part to that of the thinnest part is≥2.0 and (7) the difference of color development between the thick part and the thin part is≥10 but≤24 based on L value.
