PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus capable of detecting the leakage from the seal packing of a piston. SOLUTION: The piston 14 is provided with two annular seal members 142a and 142b and a first through-hole 143 opened to a space S1 surrounded by the two annular seal members and the inner wall of piping for coating at one end thereof and opened to a first hollow cable 151a at the other end thereof. Therefore, when the annular seal members provided to the piston 14 are deteriorated or abraded and the watertightness of a coating material supplied to the front of the piston 14 is damaged, the leaked coating material penetrates into a first hollow cable 151a through the first through-hole 143. As a result, the deterioration of abrasion state of the annular seal members is detected by detecting the presence or absence of the coating material in the first hollow cable 151a.
