PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an error in data at the time when an AC power source is turned off and an ink cartridge is replaced by reducing the number of times of writing recording information into an EEPROM on a body. SOLUTION: Operation quantity information of the body to be recorded by each one page is stored in an EEPROM on an ink cartridge and the information is also stored in the EEPROM on the body for every ten pages (T). When the body power source is restarted after being turned off, dot counter values stored in both of the EEPROM on the body and the EEPROM on the ink cartridge are compared with each other (T1), and then a CPU judges that the greater dot counter value is the newest data and adopts it thereafter (T2, T3). When the value stored in the EEPROM on the body is greater than the other, it is judged that the ink cartridge is replaced, and then the data held in the EEPROM on the body is written into the EEPROM on the ink cartridge (T4).
