PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric kettle which detects the existence of liquid in its container early even when it is not under the water-heating operation. SOLUTION: This electric kettle has a container 1 to contain a liquid and a heating means 2 to heat and hold the temperature of the liquid in the container. The heating means is repeatedly operated for a short period of time with a predetermined interval until the detected temperature in the container reaches at least a first temperature predetermined at a temperature not less than the boiling point.
