PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright coating film formation method capable of obtaining a pearl-mica tone coating film with high design properties and satisfactory smoothness while suppressing the total amount of a scaly bright material. SOLUTION: The bright coating formation method involves applying a metallic base coating material and a clear coating material to a substrate in wet- on-wet manner and the metallic base coating material contains fine particles of titanium oxide and a bright material made of a metal. In the bright coating film formation method, fine particles of titanium oxide are mixed with the metallic base coating material in the form of a paste in which the fine particles of titanium oxide are dispersed to the extent that the wet 20°gloss becomes 80-100.
