PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel treating method for wastewater by which treating performance of wastewater can be more enhanced and plant investment and running costs can be reduced. SOLUTION: In a wet process oxidation treatment for heating and oxidizing and/or decomposing waste water containing an inorganic sulfur compound in the presence of oxygen under the pressure at which the waste water maintains a liquid phase, the waste water is subjected to non-catalytic wet process oxidation treatment and then successively subjected to catalytic wet process oxidation treatment using a solid catalyst.
