PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method capable of suppressing the scattering of dust to the circumferential environment even in spray coating to obtain the high coating efficiency of an article to be coated with the particles of a coating material, and a coating apparatus adapted thereto. SOLUTION: In the coating method for coating the article to be coated fed by a conveyor using a spray gun fixed or attached in a reciprocating state, an electrode for generating an electric field is arranged in a region where uncoated particles of the coating material generated at the time of spray operation of the spray gun are floated. High voltage is applied across the electrode for generating the electric field and the article to be coated and the floated particles of the coating material are charged in the electric field to be applied to the article to be coated.
