PURPOSE: Provided is a composition containing a polysaccharide fraction isolated from Cordyceps militaris for preventing and treating diabetes mellitus. The composition decreases the blood glucose level, and is thus useful as a medicine and a health supplement food for diabetes mellitus. CONSTITUTION: A composition containing a polysaccharide fraction isolated from Cordyceps militaris is obtained by the steps of: extracting Cordyceps militaris with hot water; dipping the extract in lower alcohol; and separating precipitates, wherein the lower alcohol is methanol or ethanol.
