The electrode for an electrochemical arrangement comprises a structured support layer (3), with good electrical conductance and a layer of electroactive material (6), electrically connected thereto, which undergoes relatively large volume changes on ion-exchange reactions, such as Sn. In order to avoid a mechanical separation of the electroactive material, which leads, for example, to a gradual loss in charging capacity with each charging cycle in batteries, the support layer (3) comprises a three-dimensional web (2) of electrically conducting flexible fibres (1), which are at least partly coated with the electroactive material (6), over at least a large part of the web thickness (5). The volume changes of the electroactive material (6) are thus retained in the internal web formation. |
