PURPOSE: A keyboard having a hot key function and a method for controlling the same is provided to input a repeatedly used character conveniently by designating a predetermined hot key function to a keyboard and inputting repeatedly used character strings. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit(20) creates a predetermined shortcut setting key or hot key by combining specific keys of switches. A control unit(30) detects a key signal being inputted from the key input unit(20) and judges an input of the shortcut setting key or the hot key. If the shortcut setting key is inputted, the control unit(30) stores a character string corresponded to a predetermined hot key in a memory(40). If the hot key is inputted, the control unit(30) reads and outputs a corresponding character string from the memory(40). The memory(40) stores a predetermined character string in an address corresponded to a predetermined hot key in accordance with a request of the control unit(30) or supplies a stored character string in an address corresponded to a predetermined hot key. An interface(50) receives a predetermined key signal in accordance with an output of the memory(40) and transmits the key signal to a PC main body.
