<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and inexpensive image forming apparatus by improving the maintenance of a scanner part and a printer part. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: a scanner part 1 including an image reader; and a printer part 2 including a writing optical unit, an image forming mechanism and a transfer paper transport mechanism. The scanner part 1 is installed on the printer part 2 and is connected to the printer part 2 so as to be opened/closed around a supporting point.
