<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display for reducing a leak current that is generated in a switching element without reducing the opening ratio of pixels, and to provide a manufacturing method for the liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has a source wire 28 for inputting data signals to an active layer 21 in a thin-film transistor (TFT) 20 and a display region where a gate wire 23 is formed so that it orthogonally crosses the source wire 28. The liquid crystal display comprises a Peltier element 10 having a Peltier effect, and a heat absorption side metal 14 as a light-shielding layer for shielding light entering the active layer 21.
