PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strengthen linkage between a plurality of application programs, and to facilitate control of a user when providing e-mail service by using WWW. SOLUTION: This service providing system includes a shared authentication server by a plurality of different applications for providing the service using the WWW. The authentication server authenticates the user by a request of the application. When authentication is successful, determination is made on whether or not authentication ID on the user succeeding in the authentication is prestored in an authentication database for associatively storing the authentication ID and service state information on the user. When the authentication ID is determed to have been stored, the service state information is informed to the application of requesting the user authentication for executing processing on the basis of the service state information on the user associated to the stored authentication ID.
