摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic optical waveguide which functions as a dispersion compensation device which has a broad band characteristic and a high performance or as a variable wavelength filter. SOLUTION: A core part 41 and a clad part 42 formed with an organic material are provided under a supporting table 44, a periodical ragged substrate 45 having a heat generating body 47 is fixed on the supporting table 44 via a piezo-electric body 46. A periodic refractive index modulation region 43 is formed by displacing the ragged substrate 45 by the piezo-electric body 46 and applying a pressure on the core part 41. A broad band and high performance dispersion compensation device and an optical waveguide functioning as a variable wavelength filter are composed by forming or varying the periodic refractive index modulation region which is consisting essentially of an organic material having an excellent mechanical characteristic by a light irradiation and the variations in temperature and pressure.
