<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system, a server device and electronic equipment superior in security and convenient in use. <P>SOLUTION: The authentication system comprises an image forming device 1 having an authentication function, a card reader 2 for reading a user ID out of a card, and portable equipment 3 adaptable for short-distance radio communication with the image forming device 1. The portable equipment 3, when located near the image forming device 1, can receive a polling command transmitted from the image forming device 1 and reply a self identification number. The image forming device 1 collates the user ID read by the card reader 2 with the identification number replied by the portable equipment 3 and permits the use of the image forming device 1 if ascertaining that the user is identical with authorized one. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
