PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid electrolytic capacitor utilizing the ionic conduction of an ion conductor. SOLUTION: For manufacturing the solid electrolytic capacitor, a metal or a semiconductor which is easily oxidized and whose conductivity decreases by more than ten digits upon oxidation, such as aluminum or silicon, is deposited on an ion conductor for forming a positive electrode (both electrodes in the case of AC voltage application). A DC or AC voltage is applied for the formation of a dielectric oxide having a large capacitance along the boundary surface in between the positive electrode and the ion conductor (between interfaces involving both electrodes in the case of AC application), and the capacitance changes dependent on the intensity of the formation voltage. In this solid electrolytic capacitor, the oxide is easily erased upon polarity reversion or produced again upon another polarity reversion, which enables the capacitor to have capacitance variable in magnitude, erasable, and restorable.
